September dinner

St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Hawley, hosts a September dinner with turkey and all the trimmings from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults are $10, ages 6-12 are $4 and preschool are free.

Fall chicken dinner

St. Francis Xavier Church, Lake Park, hosts its annual fall chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults are $10, ages 6-12 are $4 and preschoolers and under are free. Craft and bake sale items also available.

Rising Sun Dancers

The Rising Sun Dancers host a dance starting at 2 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Larry Johansen will call the tips. The club will serve lunch. Spectators are always welcome.

Color guard breakfast

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard fundraiser breakfast is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion. Suggested donation is $6.50.

Kayak tour of Two Island Lake

Join a Tamarac ranger at 2 p.m. for a kayak cruise on Two Island Lake. Learn about the aquatic wildlife ecosystem while watching wildlife during this special time of year. Bring your own kayak or canoe. Life jackets are required. Meet at the Two Island Lake access on Hwy 143.

Ikes meeting

The Izaak Walton League hosts guest speaker Clayton Daughenbaugh -- talking about Utah's commitment to "taking care of what we have" -- at 7 p.m. in the lower level meeting room in the DL library. There will also be a mini-silent auction with 2 attractive items.

Hubbel Pond trapping permits meeting

The annual meeting to issue permits for the 2012-13 Hubbel Pond Wildlife Management Area trapping season is at 7 p.m. in the DNR headquarters on Lake Sallie. Number of permits is limited to six; those who had permit in 2011-12 will not be eligible.

Lego creations

Elementary-age kids are invited to Detroit Lakes Library at 3:45 to build a LEGO creation that will be displayed in the library's upstairs display case. LEGOs provided, kids provide the imagination. Community shred event

Bremer Bank hosts a free community shred event from 1-4 p.m. in the Bremer Bank parking lot. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes.

Advance planning seminars

Two free advance planning seminars are at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in West-Kjos Funeral Home. They will feature legal tools by attorneys Charlie Ramstad and Lisa Tufts, identity theft by BC Sheriff Tim Gordon and advance funeral planning with Sean Petermeier, family services coordination.

Friday, Sept. 21

Casino night fundraiser

Fair Hills Resort hosts Casino Night from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include dinner, drinks and gambling chips. All proceeds go to the Becker County Historical Society and the Historic Holmes Theatre. Call 847-2938 for tickets.

Fall bazaar

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, hosts its Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m. .to 1 p.m. Turkey steak dinner with all the trimmings and homemade pie for $7. There will also be baked goods, crafts, produce and a silent quilt auction. Take out boxes available for the lunch.

EAA chapter 1498

EAA Chapter 1498 holds a meet and greet at the Wething Airport at Detroit Lakes each Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Aviators and aviation buffs are welcome. Come enjoy the coffee and rolls and listen to the countless stories from many of the pilots in attendance.

Scenic fall hike

Join the Laurentian Lakes Chapter for a scenic fall hike at 1 p.m. The hike will be about four miles long from the Elbow Lake trailhead to Hwy 113. Meet at the Elbow Lake trailhead, which is located on the Elbow Lake road 1.6 miles west of Becker Co. Rd 37. (Look for the Many Point Scout Camp sign)


Defensive driving course

Defensive driving 4-hr classes are being offered Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sept. 24 from 1-5 p.m. in the United Community Insurance Agency, Perham. Alzheimer's quilt exhibit

"Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope" is a traveling quilt exhibit. It consists of 236 quilts featuring the names of 10,000 people who have/had Alzheimer's as well as poignant illustrations of Alzheimer's in quilt form. It will be open to the public Oct 5 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Oct. 7 from 1-5 p.m. in Emmanuel Nursing Home.

Blood screening

Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Blood Screening is Sept. 24-28 from 7-10 a.m. in Essential Clinic. Public invited to participate, fasting for eight hours is required. Cost is $35.

Minnesota Fathers and Families Network, West Central and Early Childhood Initiatives sponsor Beyond 2morrow: Reconnecting after incarceration on Oct. 10 from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in M State, DL. L.A. (Lakes Area) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Lakes Area Farmers Market

The Lakes Area Farmer's Market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., located in Peoples Park behind Zorbaz. There are many items including artisan breads, baked goods, fresh produce, meats, jams, honey, maple syrup and handcrafted items.
