Trail hike

North Country Trail Resort-Midweek Hike.  Meet at the Waboose Public Access off Inner Forest RD in Hubbard County north of Nevis. Three hikes are scheduled: very short, 2.5 and 4.5 miles. The long hike will completely circle Lake Waboose on a fine trail including hiking to a beautiful campground on one of the peninsulas of Waboose Lake.  If questions, call 218-675-5448.

Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac on this driving tour. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area on Cty Hwy 26, 3 miles east of the visitor center.

Mennonite Relief Auction

The Mennonite Central Committee Worldwide Relief Auction begins with a pig roast dinner at 4:30 p.m., followed by a kids’ auction at 5:30 and live auction at 6:30. It is at 33111 County Hwy 34, Ogema, nine miles east of Richwood. Everyone is welcome, and it is free admission.

Overeaters Anonymous

Cooking demonstration

The Lakes Area Farmers’ Market hosts a free cooking demonstration at noon in the shelter at Peoples Park. Marsha Parker, LRD, dietician at Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes, will be using seasonal ingredients that are available at Lakes Area Farmers’ Market.

Pathway through Plants

Tamarac Refuge offers Pathway through Plants at 10 a.m. Join volunteer naturalists Jeanine Ehnert and Nancy Brennan on a journey to discover the rich diversity of Tamarac’s plant communities. See how they come together to provide a home for wildlife. Learn to identify wildflowers, trees, and other flora as you leisurely walk along the North Country Trail. Meet at the Pine Lake Parking Area on County Hwy 29.

Monday, June 24

Square dance

A square dance is in the Century School in Park Rapids. Larry Johansen will be the caller, and Donna Stone will cue rounds between tips. There will be a “plus” workshop from 7-8 p.m. and mainstream dancing from 8 to 10. There will be a potluck lunch after the dance furnished by the club members. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets at 1 p.m. at Vicki Stigen’s Island View Camp.  Assisting hostess are LaValle Andersen, Ruth Solie and Donna Dosland. Vicki Stigen is providing the program.  Carpooling will be arranged.

Garden Club field trip

For those interested in a field trip to see the Botanical Gardens in Fargo, meet at 3 p.m. in the Catholic church parking lot in Lake Park. Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds services now-Sept. 1 at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service. Dan Danielson, director of New Life Center in Fargo, and Rev. Tim Cook, Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in DL, will be officiating at different times. Kathie Brekke and the apostles Blues Band will perform at the opening service.

Christian Fellowship VBS

Christian Fellowship Church, Detroit Lakes, hosts Vacation Bible School June 24-28 from 9 a.m.-noon each day for ages 5-12 years old. St. Mary’s Innovis Health hosts childbirth preparation classes for expectant mothers in their sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include Labor & Delivery, Cesarean Birth, Role of the Labor Companion, Newborn Care, Unexpected Outcomes, Breast & Bottle Feeding, Postpartum Period, Breathing Patterns & Relaxation Techniques.
