Wildlife Excursion

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts a Wildlife Excursion at 10 a.m. Explore the refuge with a knowledgeable guide. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac on this two hour driving tour. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area on Cty. Hwy. 26 just 3 miles east of the visitor center.

Cormorant Daze

Cormorant Daze is going on all day in Cormorant. There are games, events, sales and much more for everyone. Cormorant Pub will also be holding special games, music and food.

Families Forever quilt show

The Families Forever Garden Quilt Show is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 4020 4th St., Lake Park. The show is raising cancer awareness and scholarship money. There will be tea and treats, gardens and quilts. Admission is $7. Rain location is the American Legion in Lake Park.

Old time variety dance

An old time variety dance is 7-10 p.m. in the White Pine Room, Frazee. Music is by Albert Mikesh.

Sunday, Aug. 18

Atlanta Church reunion

“Come Home to Atlanta” worship is at 11 a.m., with Pastor John Martinson leading worship in the Atlanta Lutheran Church, rural Ulen. If you want to sing in the choir, arrive around 10:30 to practice. A fellowship potluck dinner will follow worship.

Spaghetti dinner

St. Theodore Church, Ponsford/Pine Point, hosts a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for under 10 and under 6 are free.

Bugs and Creepy Crawlers

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts Bugs and Creepy Crawlers: Adventures in Insect Sweeping at 2 p.m. Discover the strange world of insects found on the refuge that are a part of the food chain of a healthy ecosystem. We will work grass and brush with sweep nets to collect insects. View them up close with magnifiers and identify a few species. Meet at the Pine Lake Parking Area on County Hwy 29.

Color Guard breakfast

The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard fundraiser pancake/French toast breakfast is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL American Legion Club. It is a suggested donation of $6.50.

Make the Lake

The Detroit Lakes cross country team hosts Make the Lake state come together for a practice run. Runners can chose between 2-10 miles to run around Detroit Lake. Meet at the bandshell in City Park. Race begins at 9 a.m.

Alano Club rummage sale

The Detroit Lakes Alano Club hosts a rummage sale Aug. 16-17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, at 827 Summit Avenue. Donations for the sale will be accepted starting Aug. 10.

Thistle Down Run

State fair bus

School registration

All families new to Detroit Lakes School District may go to the school in your area to register your child for school. School for grades 1-12 starts Sept. 3. Kindergarten starts Sept. 5.

LP-A defensive driving

Shoreham Chapel

Historic Shoreham Chapel, non-denominational, between Lake Melissa and Lake Sallie, holds services now-Sept. 1 at 10:45 a.m. It is open to the public. Coffee and refreshments follow the service. Dan Danielson, director of New Life Center in Fargo, and Rev. Tim Cook, Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital in DL, will be officiating at different times.

Tuesdays in the Park

Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and brats along with sides, each Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the DL City Park before the Tuesdays in the Park band concerts in the Bandshell. It is a freewill offering. Concerts then start at 7. Bring a lawn chair. Schedule includes Aug. 13: Doc & the Scrubs, Aug. 20: Lewy Ronken Musical Revue, Aug. 27: Lakes Area Community Concert Band.

Jaspers Theater

Jaspers Theater, Park Rapids, is open. Come for the family-friendly music, magic and comedy shows each Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m., Aug. 17 and 24. Make reservations at 218-237-4333.
