Thursday, Sept. 5

Adult Spanish Club

On the 5th of each month, join the adult Spanish Club at El Loro to practice your conversation skills. Drinks are at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.


The September MAC-NAPS distribution is at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church from 3-5:30 p.m. Applications are available at St. Luke’s Church. To qualify, you must be at least 60 years of age and meet the USDA income guidelines.

Friday, Sept. 6

Salad luncheon

Grace Lutheran Church, DL, hosts its annual salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $7. Tickets are available at the church from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday, and at the luncheon.

BC Farmers Union

Women of Today

Join the Women of Today as they serve up pancakes in the VFW from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. It is a free will donation. All proceeds will benefit the Isaac’s Journey Foundation to support childhood cancer research. For more information on this organization, please visit

Danielson benefit

A benefit for Bruce Danielson, who has cancerous tumors in his head, is from 5-9 p.m. in the Cormorant Community Center. There will be a free will offering supper, bake sale, games, door prizes and silent auction. Donations can be made at State Bank of Lake Park.

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets for a potluck social at noon in the home of Liz Fossen.  Assisting the hostess are Helen House Geeslin, Nancy Nereson and Maureen Karsnia.

Early birding adventure

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts an Early Birding Adventure at 8:30 a.m. Join us for a beginning birding tour and find out the inside scoop on Tamarac’s fall hotspots. Do you live here year-round? We’ll fill you in on spring birding areas as well. Learn to identify 20 species. Binoculars and guide books will be available. Meet at the Chippewa Picnic Area located on Cty Hwy 26, three miles east of the visitor center for this two hour excursion.

Pork roast supper

Richwood Lutheran Church, nine miles north on Hwy 59, hosts a pork roast supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Adults are $9, kids 6-12 are $ and children under 5 are free. Baked goods and garden produce for sale.

Lakeland Hospice motorcycle ride

The 12th annual Lakeland Hospice Motorcycle Ride begins at 1505 Pebble Lake Road, the corner of Pebble Lake Road & Hwy 210 in Fergus Falls. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the ride leaves at noon sharp, rain or shine.  The ride is a free-will donation with proceeds going to support the Lakeland Hospice Foundation. Bikes will explore 120 miles of beautiful lakes country with two stops planned. The ride ends at the Fergus Falls VFW at 5 p.m. for a free-will donation meatball and mashed potato meal. Food demonstration

Lakes Area Farmers’ Market hosts a food demonstration at 11 a.m. Sara Van Offelen, Extension Educator with University of Minnesota Extension, will demonstrate simply food preservation techniques including freezing a variety of vegetables and canning salsa and tomatoes. 

Sunday, Sept. 8

Church fall dinner

Lake Grove Lutheran Church fall dinner is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Adults are $8, ages 6-11 are $4 and under 6 are free. There will also be a Country Store.

Fall dinner and raffle

Assumption Catholic Church, Callaway, hosts a fall dinner and raffle from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Callaway Event Center. There will be a silent auction, games, cake walk and a roast beef dinner. Adults are $8, kids 6-12 are $4 and ages 5 and under are free.

Rally Sunday

Come One!  Come All!  Rally Sunday is at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. Join them for worship, Sunday school, ministry fair, games and a free spaghetti dinner from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Grieving my way

Grieving my Way, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child of any age, meets the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Hospice building. For more info, call Brenda at 846-9275.

Soybean plot tours

The MN soybean tours begins at 5 p.m. in Waubun. Directions: ¼ mile east of Waubun on Hwy 113; plot is on the north. There will be multiple speakers. Meal to follow at the Waubun Community Center at 6:30.

Sons of Norway

Vikingland Lodge No. 495 - Detroit Lakes meeting is at 7 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church. Program is Dean and Jill Johnson from Park Rapids, talking about small towns in Minnesota.

Lake Park Garden Club

The Lake Park Garden Club meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Cormorant Park Place Clubhouse, 14401 County Highway 5, Lake Park. Program is information on the Becker County Master Gardener Program. Lunch: Claudia Hanson. Business: All members are urged to attend for planning the club’s participation in the Lake Park Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, Sept. 28. Club events will be:  Taste of Pumpkin, Garden Produce Sale, including house plants, crafts and decorations, Pie Walk, Parade Float, set up and tear down the various events, and planning publicity. This is the one fundraising event for the club’s community work, including the Corner Garden at the Highway10 entrance to Lake Park, and we welcome any who would like to participate.

Rotary blood screening

The 24th annual Noon Rotary Club Blood Screening is Sept. 16-20 from 7-10 a.m. in Essentia Health St. Mary’s. No pre-registration is necessary. Cost is $35 per person, and the screening covers collection of blood samples, analysis, results and refreshments after sample is drawn. A health fair is also Oct. 15 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

DLHS Class of 1963

DLHS Class of 1963 holds its 50th class reunion at the Pavilion on Sept. 14. There will be a social hour at 5 p.m., pictures at 6, and dinner at 6:30. Then at noon on Sunday, there will be a picnic at Dunton Locks. For any questions or more information, call Dar (Paggen) Trieglaff at 218-849-5048.

Women of ELCA gathering

All women of the ELCA are invited to attend the Cluster 7 Fall Gathering on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Bakke Lutheran Church. Dancing for Missions

Dancing for Missions fundraiser is Sept. 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Lakes Area Vineyard Church. Help raise support to send a missions team to Zacatecas, Mexico. There will be valet parking, a formal Italian dinner, childcare and a dance (waltz, swing, country, 2 step, line, etc.). There is a suggested donation of $25 per adult and $5 per child.
