First Baptist Church event

First Baptist Church all-church event begins at 6 p.m. Meet our missionaries: Elbow Lake, Rock Ridge, Samaritan’s Purse. Shopping for school? Help us get a jump-start on the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoeboxes and bring in school supplies. Register for AWANA, meet your teachers, learn how to memorize verses. Thursday, Sept. 12

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Beve Melgaard, with Nancy Kramer and Connie Carlson assisting. Program will be presented by Elaine Graf.  Dessert will be served.

Genealogical society

Heart O’Lakes Genealogical Society holds its regular meeting the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Becker County Museum.  The meeting is open to the public. Anyone who is interested in researching their family history is invited to attend. There will be some time to research following the meeting. The Becker County Republicans meet at 7 the DL City Offices.

Ecumen groundbreaking

Ecumen hosts a groundbreaking celebration for their new Short-Stay Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at 4 p.m. at the Forest Conference Center/Chapel entrance.

Friday, Sept. 13

Square dance

The Park Rapids Friendly Squares hosts a square dance at the Century school. There will be “plus” dancing from 7:30 to 8 p.m. and mainstream dancing from 8 to 10. The caller will be Tom Allen, and Donna Stone will cue round dancing between tips. There will be a potluck lunch after the dance furnished by the club members. All square dancers and spectators are invited.

Harvest Moon Ball

The DL Lions host a Harvest Moon Ball beginning with social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner from 6:30-7:30 p.m., music by Doc and the Scrubs from 6-8 p.m. and music by SLOGS from 9 to midnight. There will also be live and silent auction items. Tickets are $30 per person.

Touchdowns and Tailgate

Touchdowns and Tailgate begins at 5:15 p.m. at the DLHS football field with a concert by Tim Eggebraaten. There will be food vendors, games for the family and more. Everyone is invited. Cost is admission cost tot eh football game versus Thief River Falls.

Saturday, Sept. 14

Sucker Creek Outlaws

The Sucker Creek Outlaws hold their monthly competition at the new cowboy site at the Becker County Sportmans Club. Registration is at noon, and competition is at 1 p.m. Interested people are welcome, or call Les at 218-396-0532.

Beef roast dinner

Immanuel Lutheran church, Audubon, hosts a beef roast dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. It is a free-will offering.

Fall roast beef supper

Bakke Lutheran Church, Richwood Road, hosts a fall roast beef supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Adults are $10, children 4-12 are $4 and children under 3 are free. Music with Kim Schnitzer and Vicki Marthaler will be from 5 to 6 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 15

September dinner

St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Hawley, hosts a September dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults are $10, ages 6-12 are $4 and preschool are free.

Rising Suns dance

The Rising Sun Dancers host their first square dance of the fall from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Larry Johansen will call the tips for us. Lunch will be served by the club. All spectators and dancers are most welcome.

Color Guard breakfast

The Lakes Region Veterans Color Guard breakfast fundraiser is from 8 a.m. to noon in the DL Legion. Suggested donation is $6.50.

Fall chicken dinner

St. Francis Xavier Church, Lake Park, hosts its annual fall chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is Adults for $10, ages 6-12 are $4 and preschoolers are free.

Monday, Sept. 16

Square dance lessons

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, P.E.O. meets at 1 p.m. in the Congregational Church, DL. Miriam Moen is the hostess, with Linda Brockmann, Vicki Stigen and Maureen Karsnia assisting. The program will be presented by two new members.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous Detroit Lakes Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at noon in the second floor library of the First Lutheran Church.

Meatball supper

United Methodist Church, DL, hosts a meatball supper from 4:30-7 p.m. Adults are $10, children under 10 are $3 and under 6 are free.

Kalberer fund

A benefit account has been set up for First Security Bank, Detroit Lakes, for Aaron and Tess Kalberer. Aaron was seriously burned in a garage fire on Aug. 28, and is undergoing skin grafting surgeries at Hennepin County Burn Center.

Rotary blood screening

The 24th annual Noon Rotary Club Blood Screening is Sept. 16-20 from 7-10 a.m. in Essentia Health St. Mary’s. No pre-registration is necessary. Cost is $35 per person, and the screening covers collection of blood samples, analysis, results and refreshments after sample is drawn. A health fair is also Oct. 15 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

DLHS Class of 1963

DLHS Class of 1963 holds its 50th class reunion at the Pavilion on Sept. 14. There will be a social hour at 5 p.m., pictures at 6, and dinner at 6:30. Then at noon on Sunday, there will be a picnic at Dunton Locks. For any questions or more information, call Dar (Paggen) Trieglaff at 218-849-5048.

Women of ELCA gathering

All women of the ELCA are invited to attend the Cluster 7 Fall Gathering on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Bakke Lutheran Church. Registration is $10 and will be from 8:30-9 a.m., followed by a program and a noon luncheon, which is included in the registration fee. RSVP to Sandi Nickolauson at 218-849-3322 by Sept. 28.
