MN flood damage at $48M

Minnesota flood damage continues to add up, with 24 counties reporting $48 million in public infrastructure damage as of Wednesday.

On Tuesday, state officials said $32 million in damage had been reported, adding that they expected the total to rise.

Forty-eight counties reported damage to public facilities such as roads and sewage treatment plants or other expenses related to flooding, but just half of them have reported damage estimates to state officials. In some places, especially in northern Minnesota, water remains so high that damage estimates are not possible.

Only public facility damage costs are being compiled; no private property damage estimate is available.

Floods affected much of Minnesota last month, and some floodwaters will not recede until later this month. Federal, state and local officials are surveying the damage to determine whether the state and individual counties will receive federal flood recovery aid.
