Man accused of hiding heroin in flashlight
Brian Lee Sargent, 32, of Naytahwaush, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, on Aug. 28 at 11:40 p.m. a Detroit Lakes police officer ran the license tabs on a black Ford Taurus that passed by. The car had 2018 tabs, but the state listed the vehicle as having expired 2016 tabs.
The officer pulled over the Taurus as it was entering Riverview Terrace mobile home park. He noticed that all four occupants appeared to be making furtive movements, and one then jumped out and fled on foot.
A search of the car allegedly turned up 8.8 grams of heroin in the glove box and another 7.5 grams hidden in a flashlight, which was allegedly found directly under Sargent's seat. The Taurus turned out to be stolen.
On Sept. 1, Sargent appeared before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who set cash bail at $500 or bond at $20,000, with standard conditions of release, or $30,000 bond without conditions.
