DL man must pay $8,000 restitution to former boss
Brandon Travis Vogt, 25, of rural Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony financial transaction card fraud. A felony charge of receiving stolen property was dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records, from Nov. 2, 2016 through March 16, 2017, he made 124 unauthorized gasoline charges on a charge card belonging to a Detroit Lakes business that had terminated him. The owner of the business, which was not named in the criminal complaint, told investigators that he couldn't understand why his fuel costs were running so high when most of his crew had been laid off.
Vogt appeared May 24 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who
sentenced him to a year and a day in prison at St. Cloud, stayed five years. He was ordered to serve 95 days in jail, with credit for 95 days served. He must pay $8,080 in restitution and was fined $500 plus $660 in court fees. He must abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs, submit to random testing, get a chemical dependency evaluation, and follow the recommendations. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
