PEO Chapter DQ: Detroit Lakes Chapter DQ of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. in the home of Maxine Nelson. Co-hostesses are Joan Westlake and Sally Oja. Maureen Karsnia will present the program, "Friendship."

Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Chapter: The Laureate chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 10 a.m. in La Barista, located just inside the north entrance of the Washington Square Mall. Kay Nulph will be the hostess and will also present the program.

Classical Music Night: Escape from the stress of the 2018 elections with "Romantic Works for Cello & Piano" at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes, starting at 7 p.m. Cellist Gregory Hamilton and pianist Jay Herschberger will be featured in this first Classical Music Night of the Holmes Theatre's 2018-19 season. Creative Grief Workshop: Hospice of the Red River Valley is offering a free educational creative grief program for adults in Detroit Lakes from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at its offices in Detroit Lakes (1111 Highway 10). Create do-it-yourself (DIY) memorial pots with a local master gardener. Attendees will also learn ways to manage grief during the holidays and important self-care strategies with others who have experienced a similar loss through death. This class is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required by Thursday, Nov. 1. Holiday Open House & Volunteer Fair: The gift shop at Essentia Health St. Mary's will be hosting a Holiday Open House from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., featuring door prizes, treats and holiday deals. EHSM will also be hosting a Volunteer Fair, located near the main clinic entrance, from 1 to 3 p.m. Stop by to win prizes and learn more about the many volunteer opportunities available at Essentia Health. All of the funds raised and volunteer hours served directly impact the EHSM Foundation, which supports projects within the hospital and its surrounding community.

Defensive Driving Class: An AARP four-hour refresher class on Defensive Driving will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Parish Center, 1043 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes. PEO Chapter FG 20th Anniversary: Detroit Lakes Chapter FG of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) will hold its 20th anniversary celebration, starting at noon inside the new Spitfire Bar & Grill, 110 N. Shore Drive, Detroit Lakes. Hostesses for the Birthday Party are Beve Melgaard, Sue Boyle and Kirsten Vogt; a short meeting will also be held.

Holiday Bazaar: Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes will host its annual Holiday Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fresh, hot rolls and coffee will be served starting at 9 a.m., and there will be a variety of handcrafted items and baked goods for sale along with candies and gourmet coffee. Teachers' Tea: To celebrate the 98th annual American Education Week (Nov. 12-16), Detroit Lakes American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 will host its 49th annual Teachers' Tea & Coffee Party at the home of American Legion Post 15, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. All current and retired educators, support staff, substitute teachers and school bus drivers are invited to stop by between 3:45-5 p.m. to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and light refreshments. Brown Bag Lunch: The Becker County Museum will host the latest in its monthly Brown Bag Lunch presentations, starting at noon, with a presentation by Kelly Blackledge of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge on "Bird Feeding in Becker County." The presentation is free, but those who would like to reserve a boxed lunch should contact the museum by 10 a.m. on the morning of the presentation (attendees are also welcome to bring their own lunch). ABE Orientation: Detroit Lakes Adult Basic Education is offering a two-day orientation for those wanting to enroll in GED or Adult Diploma classes. Powerful Tools for Caregivers: Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota is hosting a new class, "Powerful Tools for Caregivers," on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes. Detroit Lakes Area Pickleball: Detroit Lakes Area Pickleball: Open pickleball play will take place every Monday through Friday, 8:30-11 a.m., at the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center. L.A. Moms group: Lakes Area (L.A.) Moms is designed to nurture every mother. At our L.A. Community Alliance Church programs: Community Alliance Church, Detroit Lakes, hosts Quilting for Missions Mondays at 9:30 a.m.; The first Tuesday of every month is High Mileage (suggested ages 55 and up), which meets for "pot-blessing" meal at noon, followed by special music and a Bible nugget.

Bone Builders: An exercise class for seniors called "Bone Builders" is being held at 405 W. Maple Ave. in Frazee, Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.; the Lake Park City Center every Tuesday and Friday at 10:15 a.m.; and also at the Vergas Event Center, Thursdays at 9:30.a.m. The group focuses on low-impact and balance exercises.

Alzheimer's Support Group: Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. in the Yoga Studio at Ecumen Detroit Lakes.

Dunvilla Lions Club: The Dunvilla Lions Club will meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Dunn Township Hall.

Free hot meal: Stop into the Refuge every Thursday and Friday evening for a hot meal served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. The Refuge is located at 921 8th Street SE in Detroit Lakes.

The Caring Cup: Every second and last Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., community members who are dealing with the loss of a loved one meet at the David-Donehower Funeral Home for friendship, support and encouragement. The free program is open to the public, no registration necessary.

Women's Domestic Violence Education Support Group: Lakes Crisis & Resource Center hosts a Women's Domestic Violence Education Support Group every Wednesday from 5:30—6:30 p.m. in the crisis center. Call to pre-register at 218-847-8572 or 218-847-7446. Childcare is available upon request.

Rummikub, more games: Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., come to Holy Rosary fireplace room for coffee, desserts and a game of cards, board games or Rummikub. Everyone is welcome.

BC Senior Meals: Meals for persons 60 and older are served several times each week at nutrition sites in Detroit Lakes, Lake Park, Osage and Wolf Lake or can be delivered directly to homes in these communities, Frazee and Callaway, via the Meals on Wheels program. One-day advance notice of attendance is required at many sites. Lakes Area Quilt Guild: The Lakes Area Quilt Guild meets every 4th Thursday at 7 pm at Ecumen in Detroit Lakes, Emmanuel Nursing Home in the Forest Conference Center. Check us out on Facebook! All levels of quilters, new and experienced are welcome to attend.

Preschool screening: Preschool screening for 3-5 year olds for the Frazee-Vergas district is provided through Becker County Community Health Services. Call Annie at 218-847-5628 ext. 5419 to make an appointment. This one screening will provide your child the requirements for Early Childhood Screening. Minnesota law requires each child attend a health and developmental screening before kindergarten.

Senior Center Activities: The DL Senior Citizens Center has activities all month long. Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. is Pinochle; at 1 p.m. there will be 500 and other games. Whist is played on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. The third Wednesday of each month will be a celebration of birthdays for the month. The second Monday of each month there will be a Site Council meeting at 11 a.m. For more information, call 847-5823.

Bingo for DL Hockey: The DL Youth Hockey organization holds Bingo every Sunday at Zorbaz in support of youth hockey in Detroit Lakes. All are welcome; Bingo starts at 6 p.m.

Birthing class: Essentia Health St. Mary's hosts childbirth preparation classes for expectant mothers in their sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Topics include Labor & Delivery, Cesarean Birth, Role of the Labor Companion, Newborn Care, Unexpected Outcomes, Breast & Bottle Feeding, Postpartum Period, Breathing Patterns & Relaxation Techniques.
