Talent showcase

The Winter Warm-Up Talent Showcase is at 7 p.m. in the Frazee High School Commons. Great entertainment for the whole family featuring local musical talent ranging from country to pop, blues, gospel, Celtic, Native American flute, Old Tyme, folk and western. Sunday, Feb. 5

Sunday Recital Series

Playhouse 412 and The Historic Holmes Theater are partnering to present a "Sunday Recital Series," a fund-raiser for both the theater's new Yamaha grand piano and Playhouse 412's production/operating expenses. Each of the Recitals will feature the new grand piano. A freewill offering will be collected at each recital with a suggested donation of $5. Performing are Stephanie Dunkirk, Jennifer Dunkirk and Monica Johnson, vocalists from MSUM, at 2 p.m. in the Holmes Theater.

Square dance

Lakes Plus Square Dance is from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall, DL. Jim Kooyer will call tips. All dancers and spectators are welcome.

Swedish meatball dinner

Circles of Faith Women's Fellowship sponsors the annual Swedish meatball dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Admission for adults is $6, children from preschool to 12 years is $3 and those under preschool age are admitted free. There will also be a bake sale, knife and utensil table and a drawing for door prizes.

Pancakes, French toast

Holy Rosary Knights of Columbus hosts a pancake and French toast breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Parish Center.

Tamarac ski

Join a Tamarac park ranger on a two-hour cross-country ski trek from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will need to bring their own skis. This trek is perfect for beginners so bring the whole family. The trailhead is located just north of the town of Rochert on County Highway 29, six miles north of Highway 34. PEO Chapter DQ

P.E.O. Chapter DQ meets at 1 p.m. in the home of Sally Oja. Assisting are Carolyn Armknecht and Carolynn Blanding. Program will be given by members Sue Portilla and Janet Green.

Wednesday, Feb. 8

Perfect Style

Detroit Lakes Christian Women's Club presents "The Perfect Style for You" from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the DL Holiday Inn. Cost is $8. Call Lily Ann at 846-2563 or Ruth at 847-5507 for reservations.

Frazee FastBreak Club

The Frazee FastBreak Club meets at 7 p.m. in the conference room at Frazee High School. Parents of those in K-12th grade basketball are encouraged to attend the meeting. The meeting will feature an update on the season, with discussion of upcoming events and plans for fundraising including the upcoming Bumblebee Basketball Tournament on Feb. 18 in Frazee. Thursday, Feb. 9

Rotary spaghetti dinner

Noon Rotary sponsors a spaghetti dinner to benefit area scholars, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at MSCTC-Detroit Lakes (the tech college). Adults are admitted for $6, ages 4-12 for $3, and and those under age 3 are admitted free.

Bookmobile scheduled

Viking Library System's bookmobile is at Dent School from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Dent Bank from 11 to 11:30 a.m., Richville Post Office from 11:45 a.m. to noon, and Vergas Municipal Building from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

PEO Chapter FG

P.E.O. Chapter FG meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Kirsten Vogt. Cindy Bruflodt is assisting as hostess. The program will be presented by Cindy Bruflodt.

Friday, Feb. 10

LP blood drive

A Lake Park blood drive is set from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the LP American Legion. Call Don at 532-7474 for an appointment. Remember your identification and a list of medications. Register to win a trip to Vegas or an iPod Shuffle.

Saturday, Feb. 11

Senior dinner

The Detroit Lakes Jaycees hosts its Annual Senior Dinner from 11 a.m. until the food is gone at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. There will be a free will offering taken.

Eagles blood drive

The DL Eagles Club hosts its annual Valentine's blood drive for United Blood Services from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 112 W. Holmes St.

Medicare D meetings

Patti Cummins, St. Mary's Regional Health Center, an expert in Medicare Part D, will discuss the new drug coverage program in the St. Mary's boardroom on Thursday, Feb. 16, and Wednesday, March 15, starting at noon each day. Schanilec book signing

Local author Ernest Francis Schanilec is signing his books at Sunflower Hill, Detroit Lakes, from noon to 2 p.m. on Feb. 8, 9, 15 and 16.

Minnesota Flyers

Registration for Minnesota Flyers Gymnastics spring session begins Feb. 13. Tykes day classes are back. Register Monday-Friday between 1:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Flyers building. Or call 847-3637.

Tax assistance is being offered in Becker County through April 14 at the following locations:

n Mahube Community Council in Detroit Lakes -- Feb. 1-April 13 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

n Detroit Lakes Public Library -- Feb. 7-April 12 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Valentine's banquet

Everyone is invited to the annual Valentine's Banquet Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. in the Frazee Events Center. The evening begins with a sit down candlelight dinner and dessert, followed by live entertainment featuring the humor and talents of singer-songwriter Brent Lamb. His songwriting credits include Steven Curtis Chapman', "My Turn Now," Steve Green's "Household of Faith" and Bill Gaither's "Tabernacle." Cost is $15 per person. Trinity new members

The Detroit Lakes chapter of Women of Today is holding a Valentine Raffle. The prize package includes a ruby and diamond ring, a dozen red roses and a bottle of sparkling cider.
