DL boy cagers struggle vs. Pequot Lakes Pats

"It wasn't our night."

Those are the words from Detroit Lakes head coach Wade Johnson on his team's 70-38 loss to Mid-State Conference leader Pequot Lakes Thursday, as the Lakers lost one of their most lopsided games of the year.

The Patriots, who are undefeated in Mid-State play, jumped out early and maintained well, building on a 33-21 halftime lead by outscoring DL 37-17 in the second half.

The Lakers doubled their turnovers to the Pats by an 18-9 margin, while Pequot Lakes owned the paint by notching 38 points in the lane compared to DL's 14.

The home-team Patriots also owned the boards, out-rebounding the Lakers 38-26.

The Lakers were led by guard Adam Thielen's 14 points and six rebounds, while Nils Thomsen added 10 points and five boards.

Overall, DL was frigid from the field, shooting for a 30-percent mark, while Pequot Lakes hit 47 percent of its shots.

The Pats' Joel Schramm hit for a double-double, tallying 18 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Tucker Sheley went for 17 points and Jesse Fisher 11.

The Lakers, now 6-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference, will host Moorhead Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. start. DL traveled to Perham Saturday, with results to run in Wednesday's Becker County Record.
