Frazee re-establishes domination by sending 10 to state

The Frazee wrestling team owned the Section 8-1A individual tournament Friday and Saturday at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by sending a total of 10 wrestlers to the upcoming state tournament.

Four Hornets won division titles, while six others grappled their way to the championship bout or won their true-second match.

The 10 are the most from a Frazee team since 1999, when the Hornets had 12 in state.

Winning section championships were Mike Lucero (103-pounds), Zach Sullinger (130), Jake Sailer (152) and Austin Bachmann (189).

Those taking runner-up honors or qualifying by winning their true second matches included Andrew Lockrem (125), Ben Anderson (135), Derek Shipman (140), Kerry Lockrem (145), Justin Skillings (160) and heavyweight Nick Albrecht.

The Hornets will try and take the next step by earning a team berth Friday in the Section 8-1A team tournament in Fertile.

The state tournament begins Thursday March 2 and will run through March 4, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
