Man sentenced for assault

Michael Barry Farley, 41, of 21246 County Road 117, Osage was sentenced in Becker County District Court Monday for domestic assault by strangulation, a felony.

Another felony charge of making terroristic threats was dismissed in a plea agreement.

On June 24 he came home intoxicated about 4 a.m., woke up his wife and begin assaulting her, punching her numerous times and choking her three or four times, cutting off her ability to breath, according to court records. She passed out twice during the assault, during which he said "I'm going to kill you," and "I hope you die." The couple's three young children were upstairs at the time, according to court records.

Farley prevented her from calling the police or her relatives for a day and told one of his children to keep quiet about the attack or he would do the same to her.

District Judge Thomas Schroeder sentenced him to 15 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed three years, and placed him on supervised probation. He was ordered to serve 30 days in jail, pay a $1,000 fine plus court fees and follow all orders for protection.
