Girl Scout cookies for sale; 400 sold for troops

Detroit Lakes Girl Scout Troop 410 will be selling cookies this weekend, April 13-14, at two locations in town.

The Scouts will be at Papa Murphy's on Friday, April 13, from 4-7 p.m., and Washington Square Mall on Saturday, April 14, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

They will be selling the usual varieties of cookies, and the new cookie for this year, Lemonades. Cost is $4 a box.

According to Troop Leader Sue Livermore, proceeds from the sale of each box go to the local troop to pay for craft supplies, badges, field trips and service projects. Some of the money also funds city-wide Scout events like day camp and the annual sleep-over. This also helps pay for district-wide events like Camp Tonweya in Valley City, N.D.; "Ms. President" in Fergus Falls; and "Birds of a Feather" at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge.

"The Detroit Lakes Girl Scouts have already sold more than 400 boxes of cookies to be sent to the troops in Iraq, and will have a donation jar out at each location to send more cookies," Livermore added, in a news release.

"If you ordered cookies from a Girl Scout, they should be delivering them soon," she continued. "Cookies are just arriving in the area on Wednesday (today)."
