St. Mary's to host 'Fire & Ice' event

Sizzling and frosty. Searing and cool. Fire and ice.

St. Mary's Regional Health Center is hosting Fire and Ice, which replaces the group's 16-year tradition of Musical Memories.

The hospital foundation and board held a joint meeting and "just decided it was time to do something new," said LeAnn Mouw, director of development and community relations.

The new event -- set to be Saturday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in The Fireside -- features culinary delights and wine. There will be five food stations including a pasta station -- ravioli, marinara, veggies -- a cold food station -- Caesar salad, bruschetta, melon and prosciutto canapes -- an appetizer station -- crab and artichoke dip, soup, Italian pastry rolls -- a carving station -- prime rib, turkey, breads -- and a dessert station -- mini cheesecakes, chocolate fondue and mini cr?me brulees. And that's just a sample.

"You can't have an event without dessert," Mouw said.

At each station, a Detroit Lakes "celebrity" couple will host, including Larry and Adrienne Buboltz, Andy and Sandy Lia, Hans and Mary Beth Gilsdorf, Tim and Patty Gordon and Tom and Lori Thompson.

Also at each station, a wine that compliments the food will be added. A wine expert will "pair the appropriate wine with the food being served at that station," Mouw said.

Having the hot and cold -- or fire and ice -- foods, "we're trying to create a signature event for our facility," she said. This year wine will be the featured accompaniment, while next year and future years, it will differ.

Besides food and wine, there will be a live auction with 20 packages up for bidding, and a drawing for a trip to Sonoma, Calif. The $50 ticket to the event serves as the ticket for the trip drawing. The trip includes three nights hotel, airfare from Fargo for two and a rental car. The trip was donated by Travel Travel and Jack Chivers Realty.

"There will be other fun activities at the event," Mouw said, not giving away the other games that will be played.

Money raised at the event will go toward the 6,500 square foot therapy center being added to St. Mary's.

Tickets for the event are available at Jack Chivers Realty, Fireside, St. Mary's Gift Shop, by calling 844-0719 or online at
