Relatives as Parents


Mahube Community Council, under the direction of the Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP), is sponsoring a monthly support group for grandparents, relatives and the children they are raising. A light supper and gathering will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Mahube Community Council office at 1125 West River Road, Detroit Lakes. Childcare will be provided. St. Mary's Diabetes

St. Mary's Regional Health Center, in cooperation with Dakota Clinic and MeritCare, hosts a monthly Diabetic Support Group the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Park Assisted Living Game Room. Topic of discussion will be Realities of Living with Diabetes, presented by Sandi Hayes, RN, CDE. All interested persons, diabetics, family members, friends, are invited to attend. MS Support Group speaker

The Detroit Lakes MS Support Group is presenting a speaker who will address the issue of "starting your own business when you have a disability or chronic illness. Adult survivors of sexual assault support group

For adult survivors of incest, child sexual abuse, rape and other forms of sexual violence. It is held on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Lakes Crisis & Resource Center, DL. Call Holly to register at 218-847-7446.

Celebrate Recovery

Lakes Area Vineyard Church offers a Celebrate Recovery support group for people with hurts, habits and hang-ups. Come every Monday night for a barbecue at 6:30 p.m., followed by a time of worship and teaching at 7:15, small groups at 7:45 and refreshments and dessert at 8:45. Vision Loss group

The vision loss support group provides topics of interest to people with vision problems. Each month a new topic is selected per input from the group. Presentations will include nutrition, vision support, equipment, and a video. Discussion follows each meeting and the group also shares their own personal experiences and ideas. The State Services for the Blind has assisted in forming this new support group. The Vision Loss Support Group meets the third Tuesday of every month from 1-2:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Nursing Center First Floor Family Room. Gastric Bypass support group

A gastric bypass support is held every third Wednesday of the month from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. For more information, contact Ann Zick at 573-3413 or Karla Mitchell at 847-7076.

Set Free support group

Controlled by behaviors, attitudes or substances? Set Free is a biblically-based, Christ-centered program that meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Berean Baptist Church library. Call 847-8914 for more information.

'Morning Out' program

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota's "Morning Out" program currently has openings. "Morning Out" is a day program for those who have Alzheimer's disease or a dementia-related illness. Activities include games, crafts, music, refreshments and socialization. It also provides a much needed break for their caregivers so they can run errands, go to appointments and take a well-earned rest. Day services are offered Mondays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 610 13th St. N., Moorhead. For enrollment information, please call Tara Giese, 218-233-7521.

Emmanuel Alzheimer's support

Emmanuel Community's Alzheimer's Support Group meets the second Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Adult Day Care Room. A light supper is served, with the discussion following at 6. Contacts are Chaplain Vicki Marthaler at 844-7141 or Nurse Bobbi Jo Koons at 844-7148.

St. Mary's Alzheimer's group

St. Mary's Alzheimer's and Dementia Support Group meets the last Thursday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Winchester on Washington Avenue. This support group is open to anyone concerned about caring for someone affected with memory loss and in need of help or support. Lunch will be served. MS Support Group

Detroit Lakes Chapter of the Minnesota MS Society support group meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner, followed by a 6:30 p.m. meeting, in St. Mary's Lincoln Park game room, 208 Oak Street.

MS caregivers

The MS caregiver support group meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in MeritCare SouthPointe, 2400 32nd Ave. South in Fargo.

Emmanuel Parkinson's support

The Parkinson's Support Group meets the last Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. in the conference room at Emmanuel Nursing Home. Contact is Deb Johnson, RN at 844-9444.

Hospice of the Red River

Valley Grief Support Group

The Journeys Program of Hospice of the Red River Valley, Detroit Lakes, offers grief support groups.

An adult group for those 18 years and older who are experiencing a loss through death meets the second Thursday of each month from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

A widows and widowers lunch group for men and women experiencing the death of a partner meets the fourth Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is a $3 charge for lunch.
