Man charged with vehicular homicide

OGEMA - An Ogema man has been charged with two serious felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide in Becker County District Court.

Glen Ray Yoder, 23, of 33068 County Road 34, Ogema was the driver in an early morning car crash Oct. 21 that took the life of a local man -- Jethro Dean Nelson, 32, of rural Detroit Lakes.

According to court records, deputies and White Earth tribal police officers were dispatched at 1:42 a.m. to the scene of an accident on County Road 143.

It was apparent to the officers that the 1993 Subaru had been traveling east on County Road 143, had left the roadway, flipped or rolled, hit several trees, and came to rest on its side.

Yoder was the driver. The passenger, Nelson, was found dead on the ground, the victim of trauma caused by the crash.

Yoder's blood alcohol concentration tested at .22 percent, according to court records.

He appeared in court on Tuesday, and District Judge Peter Irvine set bond at $10,000, with conditions that include not leaving the state, not contacting the family of the deceased and submitting to random drug and alcohol testing.
