Lakes Plus hosts a Plus Square Dance from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall, DL. Jim Kooyer will call the tips. All dancers and spectators are welcome.
Swedish meatball dinner
Circles of Faith UCC Women's Fellowship sponsors an annual Swedish meatball dinner is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Adults are $6, 12 years to preschool are $3 and preschoolers are free. There will also be a bake sale, knife and utensil sale and door prizes.
Old time dance
There is an old time dance with Jerry's 1 Man Band from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Rockin' Horse, Richville.
Polar Fest pageant
The Polar Fest Pageant is at 6:30 p.m. in the Holmes Theatre.
Monday, Feb. 4
Lake Park-Audubon High School music department presents 2008 Pops Concert "We Will Rock You" at 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. It will feature the senior high choir, junior high choir, Raider Pop Group, jazz band and select solos. Admission is free.
PEO Chapter DQ
The PEO Chapter DQ meets at 1 p.m. in the home of Donna Bursik. Hostesses are Mary Seaworth, and Sally Oja. Program is by Janet Green on Constructing Leaders: President's Letter.
Tuesday, Feb. 5
DFL precinct caucuses
The DFL precinct caucuses for all 46 of Becker County's precincts are at 7 p.m. in the Holmes Theatre Ballroom, DL. Gates open at 6 p.m. and registration begins at 6:30 p.m. During the caucuses, a binding preferential ballot (straw poll) will be taken to determine how many of Minnesota's 88 Democratic National Convention Delegates will be allotted to Democratic presidential candidates. Cookies and coffee will be served. In 46 individual precinct caucus meetings, resolutions will be presented and discussed and each precinct will select delegates to the Becker County DFL Convention, which will be held at 10 a.m. on March 1 in Rossman Elementary School.
Republican caucuses sites
The Republican county caucuses meet at 7 p.m. in the Minnesota Community and Technical College room 101C (for townships Detroit, Erie, Lake View, Richwood, Holmesville, Callaway, Audubon, Lake Eunice, Lake Park, Cormorant, Cuba, Hamden, Atlanta, Riceville, Walworth and Spring Creek, and cities of Detroit Lakes ward 1-3, Callaway, Audubon and Lake Park), Wolf Lake Lions Club (for townships Osage, Carsonville, Shell Lake, Wolf Lake, Ruenberg, Toad Lake, Evergreen, Savannah, Two Inlets, Forrest, Pine Point, Round Lake, Eagle View, Sugar Bush, Green Valley, Height of Land, Maple Grove and White Earth, and city of Wolf Lake) and Frazee fire hall (for the city of Frazee and townships Burlington and Silver Leaf).
High Mileage Club
High Mileage Club meets at noon in the Community Alliance Church. This is an inter-denominational Christian ministry to those over 55 years of age. There will be a potluck meal at noon, a program of music and a Bible nugget. This is for those getting older in years but still young at heart.
A benefit for Darla Martineau, who has colon cancer, is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Eagles Club, Fergus Falls. There will be a dinner, silent auction and bake sale.

Wendy with Ojibwe Custom Beadwork holds beading classes Wednesdays in February at the Country Charm store at Washing-ton Square Mall, DL. The Indian Love Knots stitch will be taught Feb. 6 and 20; the Spiral Stitch will be taught Feb. 13 and 27. Classes are from 3-5 p.m. and the cost is $15 per stitch. Beading supplies (seed beads, thread, needles, etc.) can be purchased at Country Charm. Pre-registration is recommended, as class size is limited. Take the Polar Plunge to support the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes on Saturday, Feb. 9. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Tavern. Is your child between the ages of 3-5 and not been screened? State guidelines make preschool screening mandatory before entrance into kindergarten. The Frazee-Vergas School District will provide a preschool screening free of charge for students who are the ages of 3 by Feb. 1 through the age of 5 by Sept. 1. The screening will cover health history, immunization assessment, vision and hearing screening, and assessment of height and weight. Please call Judi at 334-2525 to schedule an appointment. Screening is Feb. 6 from 8 to 11 a.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church for Innovis (Dakota) Health clients, and Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon for MeritCare clients.
The Coronary Health Improvement Project is designed to help individuals learn how to reserve or normalize heart disease, high blood pressure, adult onset diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity in just 30 days. Get your friends and co-workers together for the Second Annual DLCCC Ice Tee Golf Tournament Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. Play nine frozen holes on Big Detroit Lake. Cost is $100 per team. Knitting, crochet classes
Multiple classes in knitting and crochet techniques are available by registration in Park Rapids. Classes will cover such topics as Tips and Tricks, Finishing Techniques, Cables, Knitting with Multiple Colors, Continental Knitting, Pattern Reading, and Problem Solving are offered. DLCCC swim lessons
Ages 2 and up can learn the fundamentals of swimming, gain essential water safety skills and perfect strokes at the DLCCC. Afternoon and evening sessions run Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 29-Feb. 21, and Saturday lessons run Feb. 2-March 8. Lakes Leaning, Callaway
Lakes Learning, the Adult Education and GED component of the Detroit Lakes School District, opened a satellite office in Callaway, located in the Native Harvest/Land Recovery Center in the former Callaway School building. GED hours, testing
Lakes Learning, the Adult Education and GED component of School District 22, is open Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Lincoln Education Center at 204 East Willow in Detroit Lakes. Actual GED testing is on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Must pre-register before taking these tests. For more info, call 847-4418.
Skating times, locations
The Lincoln skating rink in Detroit Lakes is open for the winter season. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. There is also open skating in the Kent Freeman Arena every Monday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on days that school is in session.
BC Senior Meals
Meals for persons 60 and older are served several times each week at nutrition sites in Detroit Lakes, Audubon, Lake Park, Osage, Wolf Lake and Frazee, or can be delivered directly to homes in these communities, and Callaway, via the Meals on Wheels program. One-day advance notice of attendance is required at many sites. Senior Center Activities
The DL Senior Citizens Center has activities all month long. Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. is Pinochle; at 1 p.m. there will be 500 and other games. Whist is played on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. On the first Monday of each month at 11 a.m. there will be music by "The Ding-a-Lings."
