Toastmasters improves beneficial skills

DETROIT LAKES -- Since 1924, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people sharpen their listening and communication skills, as well as to strengthen their leadership abilities and vastly increase their self-confidence.

Communication and leadership skills are vital in our competitive world. They apply to our personal, social and career lives, from CEO's of major corporations, to domestic engineer's at home. To communicate and lead correctly and effectively is important. It is often not realized how much others view us by our body language, facial expressions, mannerisms, stance and vocabulary.

Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour. Participants practice and learn skills by filling meeting roles, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one, to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There are no instructors.

The 412 Lakes Area Toastmasters meets every Monday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Speak Easy restaurant in Detroit Lakes. Visitors are always welcome.
