Detroit Zoo to take Minnnesota polar bears

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Polar bears Neil and Buzz are booked for a Motown vacation.

The Como Park Zoo in St. Paul says it plans to send the bears to stay in the Detroit Zoo's Arctic Ring of Life habitat while their own home in St. Paul is expanded.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums is recommending that the Minnesota bears go to Detroit. The zoos have had preliminary talks and are now working out the details.

Neil and Buzz are expected to return home to the expanded Polar Bear Odyssey at the Como Park Zoo in 2010.

The bears are scheduled to leave for Detroit sometime in late winter or early spring.

Recently, the Buffalo Zoo declined the loan of the two polar bears due to the cost of modifying its space to accommodate the training needs of the animals.
