Bond set at $25,000 in domestic abuse case
Charles Louis Hanks III, 32, of 36096 Lynx Lane, White Earth has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony first-degree burglary, others present; gross misdemeanor violating a domestic abuse no-contact order; and gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
On Nov. 5 he was convicted of domestic assault against a woman with whom they share an infant daughter and his sentence included a no-contact order with the woman, according to court records.
On Feb. 17 he allegedly assaulted the woman, with whom he had been staying, striking her in the face about five times as they rode in the back seat together with their child on the way home from a babysitter's house. He also allegedly pushed her out of the car and then made her get back in.
The driver of the car was angry about Hanks' behavior and confronted him, causing police to be called, according to court records.
A White Earth police officer gave Hanks a ride to another residence after the woman said he was not welcome in the home. He returned a short time later, extremely intoxicated, and kicked in the locked back door. He trashed the house and woke the baby, then took the woman's coat away so she couldn't leave.
The woman eventually took the child and fled the home anyway. She suffered lumps and bruises on her face, ankle and arm from the incident.
Hanks appeared Friday before District Judge Lisa Borgen, who set cash bail or bond at $25,000. His next court appearance is March 3.
