Donald D. Harmer, 78, Frazee, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo, N.D.
Donald Duane Harmer was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Frazee to Ward and Gladys (Blaine) Harmer. He was a 1947 graduate of Frazee High School where he was an outstanding athlete and participated in the State High School Track Meet. Don was united in marriage with Angie Zitzow Aug. 29, 1949, in Vergas. They made their home in Frazee where Don drove truck and served as a dispatcher for Daggett Truck Line until going to work for JC Penney Company in Detroit Lakes in 1961. He retired in 1986. Don's family was the love of his life and he also enjoyed high school athletics and was a member of the "Chain Gang" for Frazee High School home football games for many years. He was active with the Detroit Lakes Eagles having served as president in 1971. He also served as state Eagles president in 1983 and was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2002.
Don is survived by his wife, Angie, Frazee; two sons, Bruce (Candace), Savage, and Brent, Frazee; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Linda (Jerry) Wagendorf, Detroit Lakes, and a brother, Roger (Nancy), Lumberton, Texas.
Funeral services are Thursday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Frazee, with Pastor Gary Klempke officiating.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee.
