Donald Lindsay

Donald D. Lindsay, 82, Ogema, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in the VA Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Donald was born to Martin and Louise (Steffel) Lindsay on May 11, 1925, in Marshall, Minn. He moved with his family to the Strawberry Lake area in 1935. He attended Waubun High Shool. Donald served in the United States Marine Corps from November 11, 1943-April 8, 1946, and participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands. He was extremely proud of being a veteran who served his country. He was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and the VFW. Donald married Sigrid Lusty on Dec. 4, 1946, in First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, and made their home in the Strawberry Lake area. He was employed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, in the forestry division for 31 years. He was a forest ranger at North Home and Elbow Lake, Waubun. Donald was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting. He really enjoyed riding his four wheeler around their farm.

Donald is survived by his wife, Sigrid; five sons, Jimmy (Ermina), Ogema, William (Joan), Richwood, Terry (Patricia), Auburn, Wash., Richard, Ogema, and Scott (Ruth), Fergus Falls; four granddaughters; four grandsons; two step-grandsons; four great granddaughters; one great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Dallas, Merlyn, Robert, Roy, and two sisters, Gladys Rouse and Stella Campbell.

A memorial service was today (Wednesday, Feb. 27) in Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church, rural Ogema.

Interment is in Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church Cemetery.
