Fire destroys house north of Detroit Lakes
A fire destroyed the Jim and Karina Ramsey residence on Rice Lake Road north of Detroit Lakes Tuesday afternoon.
The fire started in the master bedroom area of the older wood-frame home and was fully involved when firefighters arrived, said Detroit Lakes Fire Chief Jeff Swanson.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire, which was reported by a passerby. Two dogs died in the home, which is considered a total loss. Because of the severity of the fire and the extent of the damages, the decision was made to let the structure burn to the ground, Swanson said.
"They were buying the house contract-for-deed," Swanson said. "It's a sad thing that they lost all they had, but they did have insurance -- at least they have something to start over with now."
