Film festival opens Friday in Park Rapids

The films "Bucharest Express," "Savages," "The Kite Runner," "Juno," "The Corporation" and "Grease" will be featured at the inaugural Red Bridge Film Festival, which takes place April 11-14 at the Park Theatre in Park Rapids.

The festival begins with an opening night gala set for 5 p.m. Friday, April 11 at the Red Bridge Inn, including a discussion with filmmaker Chuck Portz ("Bucharest Express").

The festival also includes screenings of short films by students at Nevis High School and the Minnesota State University Moorhead Film School; the student shorts will be shown before all feature films, Friday through Sunday. The students will also be guests at Friday night's opening bash.

On Saturday, the movie musical "Grease" will be screened at 2 p.m., followed by a 1950s-style party at the MinneSoda Fountain. A 5 p.m. screening of the movie "The Corporation" will be followed by a panel discussion.

Sunday's schedule will include a 2 p.m. screening of the movie "Bucharest Express," followed by an informal chat with filmmaker Chuck Portz at Bella Caffé.

Tickets are $6 per show for adults, $4 for students, or $25 for a five-movie festival pass that includes a free screening of the award-winning film "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou," to be shown at 7 p.m. Monday, April 14.
