U of M spring plant sale

It's the big one. Shop for specialty plants, University of Minnesota introductions and old-time favorites at one of the largest plant sales in the region.

This annual Arboretum Auxiliary fund-raiser is Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and Sunday, May 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Shop for thousands of perennials, hostas, herbs, vegetables, roses, wildflowers, grasses, prairie plants, woodies (i.e. vines, shrubs and trees) scented geraniums and hanging baskets.

Special "guests" this year will be "Lena," "Ole" and "Sven." No, these are not your long-lost relatives from up north. Rather, they are three new shrub-rose introductions developed by Kathy Zuzek of the University of Minnesota. Attractive in shades of pink to mauve and very disease resistant, these varieties will be available in limited quantities.

A 28-page plant list is available on-line at Printed copies will also be available at the Arboretum Oswald Visitor Center for $1. Call ahead to assure availability.
