White Earth Tribal Council election today, polls open until 8 p.m.

The White Earth general election is today.

District III Tribal Council incumbent Kenneth "Gus" Bevins of White Earth will square off against former tribal council member Ralph "Bucky" Goodman of Pine Point.

In the primary election, April 1, Bevins won with 41 percent of the vote, while Goodman came in second in the 12-candidate field with 16 percent of the vote.

That will be the only race on the ballot, because Erma Vizenor was re-elected chairwoman in the primary, where she won 66 percent of the vote in a seven-candidate race.

Former Tribal Council member Tony Wadena of Naytahwaush came in second in that race with 13 percent of the vote.

District III polling places will be at the Callaway Community Center, the Elbow Lake Community Center, the old school at Pine Point, the tribal offices at White Earth and the VFW Hall in Ogema.

In Minneapolis, tribal members can vote at the Indian Center at 1530 East Franklin.

In Cass Lake, the polling place is at the Leech Lake Facility Center.

Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

The public is welcome to watch the count at Golden Eagle Bingo in Mahmomen.
