Pechmann eliminated from Olympic Trials
Detroit Lakes native Luke Pechmann's, Olympic dream was delayed for at least four years as he didn't advance out of the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries Friday morning at the Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Pechmann, who transferred to Moorhead for his senior year of high school, swam the short event in 23.94 to finish 109th in a preliminary round that saw Cullen Jones set an American record of 21.59 in the event.
He only qualified for the Trials on May 24, less than two months after winning the 50-yard freestyle at the Minnesota state meet.
Pechmann now will concentrate on his collegiate career as he heads to the University of Arizona.
