Old Hwy 10 continues to be removed

On Friday, traffic shifted at the east end of the Highway 10 project, shifting motorists to the Highway 10 westbound lanes. Crews are removing the temporary asphalt and installing storm sewer. Concrete paving is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

There is no eastbound left turn at County Highway 54 off Highway 10, and motorists are directed to use Kris Street and Randolph Road to access County Highway 54 from the west. The work around the County Highway 54 intersection will take approximately two weeks.

Old Highway 10

(Frazee Street)

Crews continue to work on the south lanes of old Highway 10 between McKinley Avenue and Jackson Avenue this week. Two-lane, two-way traffic is being maintained through this area. This work is scheduled to last approximately four more weeks.

Old Highway 10 will be closed between Washington Avenue and Holmes Street. Westbound traffic must turn left at Holmes Street to access downtown businesses, turn right to access Burger Time or continue straight to access Floral Impressions.

Frontage road

Crews are removing sections of old Highway 10 and the existing frontage road to reconstruct a new frontage road between Jackson Avenue and East Shore Drive. Access to frontage road businesses will be maintained at all times using either old Highway 10 or the existing frontage road. Highway 10 traffic can access these frontage road businesses at Corbett Road and North Shore Drive.

The frontage road between North Shore Drive and East Shore Drive is closed for approximately eight to 10 weeks. During this time crews will reconstruct the boat landing and overlook area, build two retaining walls between the frontage road and Big Detroit Lake, work on the new bike trail and construct the East Shore Drive/frontage road intersection.

Washington Avenue

Lake Avenue between Highway 10 and State Street is closed as crews continue to reconstruct the roadway immediately north of the Graystone Building.

Lake Avenue south of Highway 10 is tentatively scheduled to reopen July 21. At that time Washington Avenue south of Highway 10 will be closed to Front Street as crews begin work to reconstruct the rest of the Washington Avenue intersection.

Crews will begin paving the eastbound lanes of Highway 10 between Summit Avenue and Washington Avenue this week, as well as the small section east of Washington Avenue.

Roosevelt Avenue

Roosevelt Avenue south of old Highway 10 (to Park Street) is closed. Motorists have a three-way stop at the intersection. Traffic is being redirected to McKinley Avenue and Park Street. Motorists should follow the signed detour.

Kris Street

There is a lane closure and stop sign condition for all turning motorists entering or exiting Kris Street. Traffic signals are installed but not operational to allow BNSF crews to finish the installation of a 6,000-foot railroad crossing preemption system. BNSF crews will also be installing the quad-four gate system at the Kris Street railroad crossing. BNSF has estimated this work will be completed by the end of the month.

The next Highway 10 project update/public meeting for this construction season will be held Monday, Aug. 11, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes City Hall.
