Sunday, July 13

Family Jam

Family Jam, Christian music and entertainment, begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 7:30 p.m. There will be games, food vendors, Fortune 500 speaker Morris Goodman and music by Noiseunion, Kaboose, Warren Barfield and more.

Pancake breakfast

The Auxiliary of the Elbow/Tulaby Lakes Volunteer Fire Department hosts a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon in the Fire Hall, located about 20 miles east of Waubun on Hwy. ll3. Cost is $4 for adults and $l for children 6 and under.

Picnic dinner, auction

Shell Lake Immanuel Church, located near Big Toad Lake, hosts a picnic dinner and auction. Worship service begins at 10 a.m., with a picnic at 11:30. Cost is $6 for adults, children 6-12 years $3, and those 5 and under are admitted free. Games and prizes for children, grab bags for sale. Auction will be at 1 p.m. Auction items include homemade quilts, crafts, handiwork, furniture and services.

Erickson concert

Ron and Opal Erickson from the Roy Rogers Theatre in Branson, Mo., perform at 7 p.m. in Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church, DL. It is a free-will offering event. Bars and coffee will be served after the concert.

The Scoop on Poop

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge hosts "The Scoop on Poop" at 2 p.m. This is for kids of all ages. We may not see all the critters we want to on the refuge, but they leave plenty behind. Discover the wonders of scat. You'll even get to create your own animal scat to take home.

Farmers Market

Callaway Horizons Farmers Market is at 10:30 a.m. on the south edge of Callaway. It is open to the public. Vendors are needed, and proceeds are all yours. It is open every Sunday.

Legion breakfast

The American Legion Auxiliary serves a build your own omelets, pancakes, French toast or biscuits & gravy breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon.

Monday, July 14

Goodman speaks

Morris Goodman speaks at a Wellness & Business Seminar in the Minnesota State Community and Technical College conference center from 4 to 8 p.m. Goodman will share his miraculous story of survival, courage and determination, as well as lead participants through a one-hour goal setting session that will encourage you on your journey to personal growth and development. This 4-hour seminar will also include short presentations from DL native Mike Tomlinson, V.P. of ALFAC, and Dustin Barton, D.C. of Core Health Chiro, P.A., who will inspire and motivate the crowd with their personal & professional stories of achievement in the business and wellness industries. Writers group

The Detroit Lakes Library's new writing group meets at 3 p.m. and is free and open to all. Share advice, gather information and offer inspiration to beginning and seasoned writers in the area. Minnesota fruits

Go into the wild and eat blueberries with University of Minnesota Extension Service nutritionist Tracy Baker at 2 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Library. Kids may also bring their favorite fruit recipes to the library on this event day. Different recipe themes will be requested each week and children will be able to take home a cookbook of the compilation at the end of the summer.

Party in the Park

The public is invited to the annual St. Mary's Party in the Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Parish Center. Cost is $5 per person. Entertainment is by Off the Wall Band, The Front Row and The Ding-A-Lings. There will also be a raffle, cookbook and jewelry sale.

Fair Hills Resort hosts a Hootenanny each Tuesday -- July 8-Aug. 19 -- with a smorgasbord from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and a show at 8:15. Make reservations at 847-7638 or 532-2222. In existence since 1965, this is the longest running musical show in the entire Midwest.

Educators scholarship

The Detroit Lakes Area Retired Educators Group is seeking applicants for their $300 scholarships, of which two will be given. 'Tea by the Sea'

Tickets for the PEO Garden Tour and Tea, "Tea by the Sea," on July 24 are on sale and can be purchased by calling Mary Nordmark at 846-1432. Cost is $25 for tour of four gardens and tea at the First Lutheran Church. Gardens can also be visited from 11 a.m. to 3p.m. for $2 at each garden.

Flag replacement

In celebration of Independence Day, Goin' Postal packing and shipping store, located off Highway 10 in front of Wal-Mart, will again offer free replacement flags to anyone who brings in a tattered, torn or faded American Flag during the month of July.

Gospel meetings

Everyone is invited to nondenominational gospel meetings at 7:30 p.m. on July 13, 20 and 27 in the DL Senior Center.

Parade entrants wanted

Those who would like to be part of the annual Turkey Days parade are urged to sign up. Organizations and individuals must furnish their own transportation and signage on the vehicles. Frazee Bucks will be awarded to the top four units, based on originality, workmanship and spirit. Entries are due by July 23 or reservations can be confirmed by calling 334-3388 (daytime).
