Hawley teacher said to have thrown wife

A Hawley Elementary School teacher was arrested Sunday on suspicion of domestic assault.

Marlyn John Keller, 35, 1035 Elizabeth St., faces misdemeanor domestic assault charges for allegedly picking up his wife and throwing her to the floor of their Hawley home, according to court documents.

The assault occurred at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, after Keller came home after drinking at a friend's party, court documents show.

Keller, a fifth-grade teacher, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, after MeritCare Hospital called the Hawley Police Department to report his wife's nonserious back injury, said Hawley Police Chief Ernest Rhodes.

Clay County Prosecutor Pamela Harris said Keller faces up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 fine. A pretrial hearing is set for Aug. 13.

Hawley School District Superintendent Phil Jensen said Keller will be disciplined according to Hawley School Board Policy, which means he could face probation, disciplinary suspension or dismissal.
