Fire damages home in Detroit Lakes

No one was injured in a house fire Monday evening in Detroit Lakes.

The fire was reported about 9:15 p.m. and seriously damaged the home of the Bode family at 318 Elizabeth Street.

The fire started in a detached garage and spread to the house. The flames also partially damaged a neighbor's garage and house before firefighters extinguished it.

Witnesses said flames from the garage fire were 20-30 feet high at one point. The smoke and emergency sirens brought out a large crowd of neighbors and spectators.

Interviewed at the scene, Detroit Lakes Fire Chief Jeff Swanson said the cause of the fire was not yet known.
