Post 15 bids adieu to season after loss to Moorhead

FERGUS FALLS - Kyle Van Dyke tossed a two-hit shutout and also homered as Moorhead defeated Detroit Lakes 10-0 in the championship game of the Minnesota Division I, District 9 American Legion baseball tournament on Saturday.

Tyler Schlotfeldt and Sam Grantham each had three hits for the Blues (23-17-1). Schlotfeldt drove in three runs.

"We played errorless defense," Moorhead Blues coach Jeff Miller said.

The Blues had 40 hits and scored 28 runs in their three games in the tournament.

"We just hit the ball well the whole tournament," Miller said.

Moorhead advances to the Division I state tournament, which starts Thursday in Burnsville, Minn.

The Blues will face the District I champion at 10 a.m.

Moorhead has won nine of its last 11 games entering state play.

"We're playing really well right now," Miller said. "This is a good time of the year to be playing well."
