Farmers Market

Callaway Horizons Farmers Market is at 10:30 a.m. on the south edge of Callaway. It is open to the public. Vendors are needed, and proceeds are all yours. It is open every Sunday.

Tulaby picnic

The Tulaby Lake Association's annual picnic is at l2:30 p.m. at the Elbow/Tulaby Lakes Fire Hall. The assn. will furnish hotdogs, condiments and pop. Members and guests are asked to bring their own service and one large dish per person. After the lunch the annual business meeting will be held and there will be election of officers and door prizes.

Community picnic

The Grace Community Church of Osage hosts a community picnic in the Osage Lions Park. The worship service begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a time of food and fellowship.

Planet Earth movie

Tamarac Wildlife Refuge presents the movie "Planet Earth -- Fresh Water" at 2 p.m. in the visitors center. Follow rivers as they course from mountain to sea, nourishing unique and dramatic wildlife. From the world's deepest lake to a stunning look at the world's highest waterfall, Fresh Water offers a unique perspective on the secret lives teeming in our purest waters.

Tollerud benefit

A Classmates for Kati benefit for Kati Tollerud is from 4 to 8 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, DL. It is a free-will donation. Donations can also be sent to Minnesota National Bank, PO Box 624, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572.

Used book sale

The Becker County Friends of the Library annual Used Book Sale is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the DL Library. A variety of books will be for sale including fiction, nonfiction, children's books and cookbooks as well as a selection of CDs and DVDs. All proceeds benefit Detroit Lakes Library programming and activities.

High Mileage

High Mileage meets at noon in Community Alliance Church. Jim Erb will give the Bible Nugget, and Janice Ramsey and Dick McLaughlin will have special music. This is an inter-denominational group for everyone 55 and over who is getting on in years but still young at heart.

DLHS Class of 1938

A 70th year mini reunion of the Detroit Lakes High School Class of 1938 begins at 11:30 a.m. in the ClubHouse, formerly Holiday Inn. All class members are welcome. For more information, call Georgie at 847-9742 or Charlotte at 844-0568.

Women's Bridge

Beautiful sunsets

Hospice of the Red River Valley hosts a 2008 Summer Seminars on "Beautiful Sunsets: Memory Loss and End-of-Life Care" from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Perham Area Community Center. Presenters include Darlene Ackerman, Alzheimer's Association (MN locations) and John Thomas, MD, Hospice of the Red River Valley medical director and family members of past Alzheimer's/Hospice patients. Woods-N-Wheels ATV Club meets at 7:30 p.m. in the DL American Legion. All ATV enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.

Genealogical Society

The Heart O'Lakes Genealogical Society meets at 6:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, DL, weather permitting. There will be no business meeting at this location. In case of rain, the meeting will be held at its regular location in the Becker County Museum & Research Library. The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in researching their family history is invited to attend.

Horticultural Society Show

The Minnesota Horticultural Society District 11 Horticultural Show is in the Lake Park American Legion, hosted by the Lake Park Garden Club. People entering exhibits are asked to use the west door from 8-11:30 a.m. The program is Rick Julian "Growing Apples" at 1 p.m. in the Lake Park City Center, followed by a Silver Tea for those attending. The Horticultural Show will be open from 3-4 p.m., and the public is invited.

Saturday, Aug. 9

Garbage can supper

Jesus Little Lambs Preschool hosts its annual garbage can supper from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Vergas Community Center. It is a free-will offering and the public is invited to come. Proceeds will be used for a handicap accessible entry into preschool.

Pig roast

The Elbow/Tulaby Lakes Volunteer Fire Dept. hosts a pig roast from 2-5 p.m. in the Fire Hall, located l8 miles east of Waubun on Highway 113. Ages l2 and up are $7, 6 to 11 are $4 and under 6 are free. Door prizes will be drawn.

St. Mary's Innovis Health hosts a wholesale art fair Aug. 5-7 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day in the front lobby.

Kohler reunion

The grandchildren of Jim and Nora Kohler host a family reunion Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2-3, at the Height of Land Sportsman Club, located 14 miles east of Detroit Lakes on Highway 34. There will be camping, food and many activities including a silent auction, raffle and golf scramble Sunday morning. Extended family and friends are welcome.

Cormorant VBS

Mobile dental clinic

Apple Tree Dental, Hawley, brings its mobile, full-service clinic to Detroit Lakes on Aug. 11-12. This dental service is designed specifically for children ages 2-12 covered by Minnesota Health Care Programs.
