Randy Travis grew up surrounded by music. His father, Harold, always wanted Travis to become a country singer and filled the house with the sounds of Hank Williams and Stonewall Jackson albums. By the time Travis was 10, he and his brother Ricky performed as a duo throughout the south at fiddlers' conventions, private parties, VFW halls, and anywhere else they could draw a crowd.

At 16, Travis entered a talent show hosted by Country City USA as a soloist. He won the competition hands-down, and was invited by the club's owner to play regular shows at the famed club. Four years later, Travis moved to Nashville and began his music career in earnest. It was a rough road, however. Turned down by nearly every record label in Nashville, often more than once, he was finally signed to Warner Brothers Records in 1985.

His first album, "Storms of Life," produced the hits "1982" and "On the Other Hand," the latter of which hit number one on the country music charts. The album itself was a huge success, eventually selling more than three million copies. Travis was the first country artist to go multi-platinum.

Since then, Travis has released 20 albums and established himself as an accomplished actor, appearing in films such as "The Rainmaker" and "Fire Down Below" and on television shows including "Matlock," "Touched by an Angel" and "Texas." He has amassed 22 number one hits, six number one albums, five Grammy Awards, six Country Music Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, among other awards.

His latest album, "Around the Bend," was released July 15, and is his first country album to be released in eight years. Travis has promoted this album recently on "The Late Show With David Letterman," "Good Morning America," "Live With Regis & Kelly" and "The Today Show."

His collection of country and inspirational songs has earned him mass appeal from fans and a permanent place on the country music scene.
