Classic cars to take Fall Tour
This weekend is a chance to see the classic fall colors and the classic cars that will be touring them.
The 412 Lakes Chapter is hosting the Minnesota Region of Antique Automobile Club of America 60th Fall Foliage Tour on Friday and Saturday.
Each year the tour is passed around the 10 clubs in the Minnesota area, and this year the Detroit Lakes area chapter is hosting it, with Orlo Gilbert heading it up. The 412 Lakes chapter last hosted it in 2002.
There will be two tours available for the classic car enthusiasts -- one short and one long one.
Both start at the event headquarters, the ClubHouse Hotel. The Friday tour begins at 1 p.m. and will go throughout the Detroit Lakes and surrounding area.
"I worked out a tour of at least 15 lakes," Gilbert said. It will be about 56 miles in length. There will be a main stop in Vergas.
The Saturday tour begins at 9 a.m. and ends at Itasca State Park. It will wind through the "country, off-beaten roads," Gilbert said. There will be stops along the way.
Gilbert said cars that will be on the Fall Foliage Tour range from 1917 on up to 25 years old, "and everything in between. They're not show cars, but very unique cars."
So far there are 112 people signed up for the tour, with 55-60 cars coming.
The public is welcome to come out to the ClubHouse Hotel and view the cars Friday evening.
