Laker runners in Milaca
The Detroit Lakes boys' and girls' cross-country teams took part in one of the largest meets in the state Saturday at the Milaca Mega-Meet.
The Lakers competed in the Class 3A division, as the boys finished 13th out of 19 teams, while the Laker girls were also 13th, out of 14 teams.
Senior Matt Weiss duplicated his team's finish, taking 13th overall with a time of 17:23.7 for a strong race.
The top three finishers behind Weiss were Leif Johnson in 45th, Dylan Ramstad-Skoyles in 47th and Ben Langworthy taking 69th.
Anwar Abda of Fridley took top honors with a time of 16:42.6, while Red Wing won the team title with 81 points.
Senior Kayla Anderson was the first Laker girl in, with a time of 18:25.7 for 71st position. Tiff Wirtz followed in 74th at 19:04.6, while Tess Jasken was 77th at 19:13.6 and Kelsy Melgaard capped DL's score with a time of 20:21.9.
Senior Ashley Anderson also finished, taking 95th at 23:18.5.
Junior Heidi Peterson of Sartell was first with a mark of 15:12.0, while the Monticello squad took top honors with 39 points.
The Lakers will be in Fergus Falls Thursday for a 4 p.m. start.
