Teen sentenced for pocket knife stabbing

Devin Louis Thompson, 18, of Box 320, White Earth, was sentenced in Becker County District Court to a youth treatment facility after stabbing a male with a pocket knife June 14.

The male, apparently a juvenile, since he was identified only by initials in the complaint, was stabbed during a fight at the Old Mission area off County Road 133.

He suffered three puncture wounds in the lower back and buttocks, a small puncture wound in the stomach and a large cut to the left ear, according to court records.

Thompson used a six inch knife with a 2.5-inch blade, and fled the area after the fight. The victim was brought to the White Earth dispatch center by private vehicle, and was met there by a deputy.

Thompson appeared in court Friday before District Judge Joe Evans, who determined that treatment would be more useful than incarceration at this point, and ordered him to successfully complete the residential treatment program at Bar None in Anoka.

The residential treatment center offers programs for emotional, behavioral and chemical dependency problems.

Thompson must successfully complete a chemical use assessment program, abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs, submit to random testing and pay restitution of $1,178.
