Regis to host Clip for the Cure Oct. 18
Not to be confused with Locks of Love, Clip for the Cure is a Regis Salon program that raises money, not hair, for those fighting breast cancer.
On Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 pm., haircuts are $15 at Regis Salon and that $15 will be donated to the Regis Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. Approximately 22,000 haircuts will be given nationwide that day at Regis Salons.
Last year, said Regis Salon Manager Amber Trana, the Washington Square Mall location raised $1,200. This is the18th year Regis Salons have been taking part in the effort to fight breast cancer.
"People can get a great haircut at a very good price and help fight breast cancer," she said. "This cause is very close to many our clients and stylists because so many of us know someone who has been touched by this disease."
Trana pointed out that with the cost of the haircut going to charity, the stylists are donating their time that day.
Besides the $15 haircut donations, Regis Salon is also holding a raffle. Tickets can be purchased that day, with the drawing being held that evening. People need not be present to win. Although she's not sure of the all the raffle prizes, some of those donated include Shooting Star Casino packages and other gift certificates to local businesses.
To date, Regis has raised more than $5 million through Clip for the Cure. That money has gone to organizations such as National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund, the University of Minnesota and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Also during October, the Regis Design Line is donating 10 percent of sales throughout the month.
"We hope that through Clip for the Cure, more women will be become aware of the disease and take preventive measures to detect it in its early stages," Trana said. "Most importantly, we hope the money we raise will eventually lead to a cure."
