Man charged with domestic assault, violating no-contact order

Paul Arthur Wichmann, 43, of Callaway has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third degree assault -- substantial bodily harm, felony domestic assault and felony violating a domestic abuse no-contact order and gross misdemeanor interfering with an emergency call.

According to court records: On Dec. 8, deputies were called to remove Wichmann from a residence in Callaway. His girlfriend had allegedly been beaten about the face and pushed down a flight of stairs twice.

Although Wichmann had allegedly seriously beaten her in the recent past, the woman let him into her house after he called and said he had nowhere else to stay.

He started drinking straight whiskey and the next morning woke up angry and allegedly begin assaulting the woman, beating and kicking her for about two hours.

When she picked up the phone and told him to leave or she would call police, he allegedly took the phone away and hit her some more.

He had screwed each door shut so nobody could enter or leave except through a sliding glass door in the kitchen. She hid until he left the kitchen, then ran to a friend's house. She was transported to Innovis hospital in Fargo with a possible skull fracture.

He is also charged with DWI, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and vehicle theft, as well as assault charges from a recent attack involving the same victim.

District Judge Joe Evans set bail or bond at $200,000 on all three court files.
