Man gets 6 months, large fine for felony DWI
Stephen Neil Christensen, 52, of 129 Northland Estates, Jamestown, N.D., has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony DWI- .08 or greater.
Another felony DWI charge and a gross misdemeanor charge of driving after his license was canceled were dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records: He was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 21 at the junction of County Road 6 and Highway 59 after deputies found his car in the ditch. His blood alcohol level tested at .24 percent.
His license was canceled as inimical to public safety, and he has three prior DWI convictions.
He appeared Wednesday before District Judge Joe Evans, who sentenced him to 48 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed seven years. He was placed on supervised probation for seven years.
He was ordered to serve 180 days in jail, or 120 days in jail if served at his own expense in Jamestown.
He was fined $4,500 plus court fees, with $3,000 of the fine stayed. He was ordered to abstain from alcohol and get a chemical dependency evaluation and follow the recommendations.
