Area schools delay start time for Thursday due to extreme cold weather

The start of classes on Thursday in the Detroit Lakes, Frazee-Vergas and Waubun-Ogema-White Earth school districts will be delayed due to extreme cold weather that has lingered over the region..

Parents are reminded that buses will run two hours late.

In additon, a.m. preschool at the Lincoln Education Center in Detroit Lakes has been cancelled.

It is not known if the Lake Park-Audubon School District will delay or cancel classes.

Classes at the Minnesota State Community and Technical College-Detroit Lakes campus will begin at 10 a.m.

Temperatures in the area are expected to dip to 33 below tonight with wind chills dropping to past 50 below, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks.

The high for Thursday will reach 10 below in Detroit Lakes with extreme wind chills still dropping below -50.
