Majority of Fargo-area representatives support abortion language bill as North Dakota House OKs challenge to Roe v. Wade
BISMARCK - The North Dakota House has voted to declare that human life begins at fertilization, setting up a challenge to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the U.S.
The vote was 51-41 on House Bill 1572 and now goes to the Senate.
The bill declares that human life begins at fer-tilization.
A majority of Cass County House members supported an anti-abortion bill today that sets up a challenge for Roe v. Wade.
Eleven Cass County representatives favored House Bill 1572 bill, six opposed it and one was absent.

The following voted against the bill:

- Vonnie Pietsch, R-Casselton
- Jasper Schneider, D-Fargo
- Steve Zaiser, D-Fargo
Not casting a vote was Mary Ekstrom, D-Fargo, who was absent.
