Girl Scout cookies are here

Members of the area Girl Scouts took orders for cookies and are ready to deliver them. They are also shipping 97 cases to troops overseas.

Last month, Detroit Lakes Girl Scouts were going door-to-door and business-to-business, taking orders for cookies. This week those cookies will arrive in town.

Old favorites like Carmel deLites, Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties are coming, along with new ones like Lemonades and Daisy Go Rounds.

The girls from Detroit Lakes sold almost 600 cases of cookies this year. Of these, 97 boxes were sold to be shipped to our service men or women overseas. This is the third year our girls have sold cookies and sent them to our troops away from home.

If you wish to purchase cookies for yourself or the troops but were not contacted, several DL troops are holding cookie shops in town this week. You may buy cookies at the Washington Square Mall on Friday, March 20, from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; at the DLHS speech meet on Saturday, March 21; Friday, March 27, in the Mall; or Wednesday, April 1, in the MSCTC.

Profits from cookies sales fund a troop's activities for the next year. Girl Scouts helps girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

Detroit Lakes currently has 111 girls registered in 11 different troops, ranging from kindergarten to 7th grade.
