East Grand Forks police release name of man involved in high-speed chase over weekend
East Grand Forks police have released the name of an Emerado, N.D., man who police say led officers on a chase over the weekend.
Blaine McKay, 24, is in custody at the Grand Forks County jail, awaiting extradition to Polk County.
On Sunday at 10:45 p.m., police got a call that a driver was asleep at the wheel of vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Minnesota Highway 220. When officers approached the man, he sped north on Highway 220, according to a department news release.
Police pursued the man who collided with a parked vehicle and then turned around to head south, back to Highway 2. The chase ended when the man crashed into an oncoming vehicle "a few feet from the origin of the incident," the release says.
McKay was taken to Altru Hospital for injuries that were not life threatening. He was later discharged and taken to the Grand Forks County jail.
He was booked on fleeing, driving while intoxicated, driving without insurance and driving under suspension.
The driver and passenger in the oncoming vehicle that was hit were not injured, according to the release.
