Cass Lake man dies after being pinned in rollover accident in northeast Hubbard County

FARDEN TOWNSHIP - A Cass Lake man was killed and three others were injured Wednesday in a single-vehicle rollover accident on County Road 9 in Hubbard County.

Bruce Anoka, 38, of Cass Lake, died in the crash re-ported at 2:48 p.m. on County Road 9 about 6.5 miles east of U.S. Highway 71.

According to a press release from the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office:

Anoka was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Astro west on County Road 9 when he approached a curve while traveling at a high rate of speed. The van went off the curve, into the ditch, collided with an ap-proach and landing on its roof.

Anoka was pinned under the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Three passengers were injured in the crash.

Sally Yanez, 45, of Minneapolis, suffered multiple injuries and was air-lifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn. She was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Kenneth Yanez, 26, of Bemidji, and Joanna Bearheart, 25, of McGregor, Minn., were transported to North Country Regional Hospital. Kenneth Yanez was treated and released, and Bearheart was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Responding to the scene were the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office, Cass County Sheriff's Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police, Leech Lake Department of Natural Re-sources, Minnesota State Patrol, Cass Lake Fire Department, North Memorial Air Care, Leech Lake Ambulance and Bemidji Ambulance..
