Bleeding man wanders away from Saturday rollover near Nevis; seeks stranger's help

Early Saturday morning, a bleeding man startled Duane Raze, needing assistance at 5 a.m.

Before Raze could answer the door the man had left. He was bleeding from one leg.

Concerned, Raze got into his vehicle to try to locate the injured man. He discovered a vehicle that had obviously rolled several times at the intersection of Field Lane and Falcon Road, two miles west of Nevis.

Seeing no one in the vehicle, he returned home and called 911 to report the accident.

Sheriff's Department deputies and First Responders from Nevis began the search for the injured man.

"At approximately 7:30 a.m. John Reuvers called and reported that a person, who identified himself as Christopher Schumacher, was in a cabin at 24165 Field Lane in Nevis and that the individual was bleeding from his leg," said a news release from the Sheriff's department.

"Christopher told officers that he had walked from the wrecked vehicle to the cabin, where he fell asleep. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. It was learned that the individual was Christopher Scott Schumacher, age 26, of Rockford."

Schumacher was transported to St. Joseph's Area Health Services and treated for a laceration on his knee and back and neck pain. The Sheriff's department said alcohol is suspected as the cause of the accident.

The case remains under investigation.
