Ogema woman sentenced for her role in starting a garage fire
An Ogema woman has been sentenced for her role in starting a garage fire on Feb. 15.
Kateri Irene Warren, 24, of Loop 25, Bear Clan Drive, Ogema was sentenced on a gross misdemeanor count of negligent fires.
According to court records, she and Fredrick Willis Jackson, 30, of 48828 Highway 225, Ponsford, were accused of burning clothes in a stove that had no stove pipe, which caused a fire that quickly burned out of control and destroyed the garage and its contents.
The two were in the garage because they had been drinking and were refused admittance to the home.
Warren, who appeared before District Judge Joe Evans on Tuesday, was originally charged with a felony, but she pleaded guilty to the gross misdemeanor on an Alford basis.
She will serve 365 days in jail, the balance of what she has not yet served stayed two years. She was fined $1,000 plus court fees, but can do community service work in lieu of the fine.
