Frazee family involved in Highway 71 crash near Park Rapids

Two Menahga residents were injured when their vehicle collided with a pickup truck driven by a Frazee man on Highway 71 near Park Rapids Monday afternoon.

Manuel P. Ramirez, 68, of Menahga was driving a 1991 Ford EPR southbound on Highway 71.

He collided with a 2005 GMC Sierra that was northbound on Highway 71 and was making a left turn onto 120th Street south of Park Rapids, according to the State Patrol.

Ramirez was injured in the crash, as was a passenger, Anthony P. Ramirez, 15, of Menahga. Both their injuries were described as non life-threatening by the State Patrol.

The Sierra pickup was driven by Lewis E. Sternerson, 26, of Frazee. Passengers in his truck were Erika J. Sternerson, 4, and Nathaniel W. Stenerson, 1.

None of them appeared to be injured, according to the State Patrol.

Sternerson, told the Park Rapids Enterprise newspaper that he became momentarily distracted looking for a women friend who was parked on 120th Street and looked away as he made a left turn onto 120th.

The front end of his truck clipped the oncoming vehicle, sending it spinning into the west side ditch. The oncoming vehicle overturned upon impact.

One of the Menahga residents complained of neck and back pain, and was transported to the Park Rapids hospital, according to the Park Rapids Enterprise. The other occupant of the rolled vehicle did not appear to be seriously injured.

The Minnesota State Patrol was on the scene and traffic was being directed around the accident, which occurred just before 3 p.m.
