City poised to take over Dent school

DENT -- The Dent City Council will be taking over ownership of the Dent school building.

Last year was the final year for the Dent Elementary School, and the plan for Perham school officials was to turn over the facility to Dent city-which is planning to utilize it as a multi-use community center.

The transfer of the building and property was hung up due to an underground fuel tank. An above-ground tank is now in place and operational, noted buildings administrator Fred Sailer in his monthly report to the Perham-Dent School Board on Dec. 16.

Jordahl comes highly recommended for Yellowjacket head football coach

Mike Jordahl was formally appointed head football coach at the Dec. 16 school board meeting.

The board's decision drew praise from teacher Paul Belka.

As fate would have it, Belka was a high school student in Dilworth when Jordahl student-taught there. Later, Belka was a student teacher in Jordahl's Perham classroom. Eventually, Perham hired Belka and now the relationship has made a circle of sorts, so both Belka and Jordahl are now colleagues in the same school.

Belka said he has a very high regard for Jordahl, and assured the board members that they wouldn't regret naming him head coach.

"Mike is a valued member of our current defensive coordinator," noted Fred Sailer, activities director, in his report to the board. Sailer recommended Jordahl for the head coach position, and commended him for his organizational, relationship and leadership skills.

Jordahl replaces longtime football coach Howie Kangas.

Middle school kids stock the food shelves

Prairie Wind Middle School students collected 1,134 pounds of food during the one week food drive in conjunction with the "Fill the Dome" food drive.

The 8th graders brought in 508 pounds to win the competition between the grades.

"Regardless of who brought in the most food-hats off to students for bringing in something for a good cause," wrote Principal Scott Bjerke in his report to the school board.
